Watchdog limits dairy product imports from Belarus from Wed

MOSCOW, Jun 5 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight, or Rosselkhoznadzor, has limited imports of milk and some dairy products from Belarus from Wednesday, press secretary Yulia Melano told reporters late on Monday.

“Based on the results of a meeting held at Rosselkhoznadzor and discussion of the need to take measures in connection with the continued supplies of unsafe dairy products from Belarus to Russia, Rosselkhoznadzor is forced to impose temporary restrictions on supply of products to Russia from June 6 (Wednesday), until the security situation with Belarusian products in which the majority of violations was detected, is settled,” Melano said.

The restrictions will affect milk and cream, pasteurized, sterilized, and ultra-pasteurized, dry milk and cream, concentrated, canned and condensed, dairy whey, concentrated and dry, and whey concentrate and milk protein.

The restrictions will affect products supplied in a consumer pack of over 2.5 liters, Melano added.

Andrei Danilenko, head of Russia’s National Dairy Producers Union, or Soyuzmoloko, told PRIME that stocks of dairy products, whose imports from Belarus are to be limited, are high, and Russian consumers will not suffer if the ban is introduced.
